Vodafone and Nokia Partnership
On June 20, Vodafone announced a collaboration with Nokia to trial its Software Defined Networking (SDN) controller in fixed access networks. This initiative aims to enhance network automation and flexibility, potentially improving service delivery and operational efficiency.

 

OpenAI Acquires Rockset to bolster its enterprise AI
OpenAI has acquired Rockset, a company specializing in real-time search and data analytics tools. This acquisition aims to integrate Rockset’s technology into OpenAI's infrastructure, enhancing its product offerings. Rockset's team will join OpenAI, and current Rockset customers will be transitioned off the platform gradually. Although financial terms were not disclosed, Rockset's capabilities in transforming data into actionable intelligence will now benefit OpenAI's clients. Founded in 2016 by former Facebook engineers and a database architect, Rockset's platform supports applications like recommendation engines, logistics dashboards, and chatbots in fintech and e-commerce. Before the acquisition, Rockset raised over $117.5 million from investors like Icon Ventures, Sequoia, and Greylock, and served notable customers including Meta and JetBlue. 

 

General Catalyst Partners Venture Highway 
General Catalyst, a prominent Silicon Valley venture capital firm, is expanding its footprint in India by partnering with local venture firm Venture Highway and committing between $500 million to $1 billion for investments in the region. This strategic alliance will focus on a multi-stage investment strategy targeting early- and growth-stage startups across various industries. Venture Highway, known for its early-stage investments in companies like Meesho and Moglix, will broaden its focus to include startup incubation under the General Catalyst umbrella. General Catalyst, which manages over $25 billion in assets, aims to leverage its experience and network to support the growth of Indian startups, joining the ranks of other major venture firms in India such as Lightspeed, Accel, and Nexus. The partnership, while not involving the acquisition of Venture Highway's portfolio, positions General Catalyst as a significant player in the Indian market, reflecting the growing importance of India as a global economic and investment hub.

 

3GPP Release 17 Completion
The 3GPP confirmed the completion of Release 17, which introduces enhancements for mobile broadband, industrial automation, and vehicle-to-everything communication. This release is expected to significantly impact the industrial IoT sector by providing enhanced support for URLLC and new functionalities like integrated access and backhaul.
